Dale Kindergartner's Lemonade Stand Helps Stock Diapers for Local Families

Most first lemonade stands end with a shoebox of quarters and a proud kid covered in sugar. Merritt Grace Nichols had bigger plans.
The Dale kindergartner set up her very first lemonade stand on a hot September morning, serving more than 20 customers. But the lemonade wasn't the sweetest part of the day. Merritt chose to donate half of her proceeds to Legacy Parenting Center, directing the money toward diapers for Pottawatomie County babies and families in need.
Diapers are one of the most consistent needs local family resource organizations face, making donations like Merritt's genuinely important. For a kindergartner to grasp that idea, and choose to act on it with her own lemonade stand earnings, says a lot about the kind of community she's growing up in.
It's also a nice reminder that giving back doesn't require a certain age or a certain amount of money. Sometimes it just takes a hot day, a pitcher of lemonade, and deciding to do some good.
Way to go, Merritt. Pottawatomie County's littlest residents are already showing the rest of us how it's done.
