Shawnee Officer's Lunch-Break Kindness Helps Student See Clearly

It's the kind of small moment that could have easily gone unnoticed. But at Grove School in Shawnee, Oklahoma, one officer's simple act of kindness is getting the recognition it deserves.
When a student's glasses broke during the school day, the situation could have meant a call home, a missed afternoon of clear vision, or a scramble to find a fix. Instead, Officer Harjo stepped in. On his own lunch break, he took the student's broken glasses to a local eye doctor, waited to have them repaired, and returned them to the school before the day was even over.
Nobody asked him to do it. There was no protocol requiring it. Officer Harjo simply saw a need and took care of it, using his own time to make sure a Shawnee student could see clearly for the rest of the school day.
It's a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but for that student and his family, it made a real difference. His mom was saved a trip to fix the glasses herself, and her son didn't have to spend the rest of the day squinting at the whiteboard.
Moments like these are a reminder of what community really looks like in Pottawatomie County. Officers like Harjo aren't just present in schools to keep order. They're building relationships, looking out for our kids, and showing up in ways that go far beyond the job description.
Thank you, Officer Harjo, for the reminder that a little bit of good can make a student's whole day better.
