Tecumseh Volleyball Players Donate Birdseed to Local Nursing Home

A Facebook post a couple of months ago was all it took to spark a wave of generosity in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Heritage Skilled Nursing & Therapy, a nursing home in Tecumseh, had shared that they were running low on birdseed — a big deal for residents who love watching the birds come by their windows each day.

One local mom, Whitney Benge, saw the post and decided to act. She rallied the Tecumseh community, and together they collected an incredible 200 pounds of donated birdseed for Heritage's residents.

To deliver it, she turned to her daughter, Makenzie Benge, and Makenzie's Tecumseh High School volleyball teammates, Channing Goodson, Alexis Sipes, and Brenea Jessee. The group of teammates headed over to Heritage after practice, bags of birdseed in tow, to make sure residents were stocked up again.

It's a simple gesture, but one that meant a lot to the residents who look forward to watching the birds outside their windows. It's also a great example of what happens when a community pays attention and shows up for its neighbors. A single Facebook post turned into a community rallying around its elders, a group of student-athletes willing to give up part of their after-practice time to make a delivery, and an unmeasurable amount of joy from Heritage residents.
